22.11.00: ZDNet and AvantGo team to provide technology news on mobile devices in UK, France and Germany
ZDNet today announced an agreement with AvantGo, through which it will provide the AvantGo Mobile Internet Service audience in the UK, France and Germany a selection of its popular information and services, including localized, technology-focused news and events, as well as downloads and gaming content. Starting immediately, AvantGo users will be able to receive this content instantly, free of charge, on a range of mobile devices, from Palm OS devices to Windows-Powered Pocket PC handheld computers, and to WAP-enabled phones.
5.10.2000: Go2Call teams with ZDNet UK to integrate free PC-TO-Phone calling on ZDNet UK web site
In a move to bring free online phone calling capabilities to millions of UK-based web users, Go2Call, a leader in Internet calling services, today announced a strategic alliance with ZDNet UK. GO2Call will become PC-to-phone provider for ZDNet UK, part of ZDNet, the world's leading network of web sites for people who want to buy, use and learn about technology.
Through the partnership, Go2Call will enable ZDNet UK users to place free and unlimited web-based calls from ZDNet UK’s site to landline phones in the UK, as well as free long distance calls to the US, Canada and a half dozen European countries, including Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands. Go2Call will also provide callers with the opportunity to enroll in the company’s new EuropeSelect plan, which offers the lowest cost PC-to-phone calling option to the rest of Europe.

General Managers Appointed to Oversee Consumer, B2B and Downloads & Services.
ZDNet UK today announced the appointment of several senior executives to General Manager positions with the goal of placing strategic emphasis on three core business units: consumer, business -to-business, and downloads and services.
Shobhan Gajjar, Managing Director of ZDNet UK, announced the general manager appointments, including Martin Perry, who will head up the B2B unit, David Kelly, who will oversee the consumer unit, and Steve Malone, who will head up the downloads and services unit. They will be responsible for addressing the needs of different audience segments, focusing on delivering the best user experience on the Web in their respective areas of expertise. In addition, they will be responsible for maximizing the revenue and profitability within each division.

ECTS organiser CMP has appointed ZDNet's GameSpot UK (www.gamespot.co.uk) as the show’s official web site for gamers for the third year running.
The pan-European alliance makes the award winning gaming site the exclusive Web Site for gamers at ECTS - Europe’s premier interactive entertainment trade show, which takes place this year at Olympia, London, from September 3rd-5th. AltaVista UK, a leading Internet search and new media network, today announced that it has chosen ZDNet UK as a key contributor providing content in its news and shopping sections. From today, AltaVista UK will host a selection of ZDNet UK’s technology content, including its breaking news and archived stories, in AltaVista’s news channel at www.altavista.co.uk.
In addition, AltaVista UK will link users to ZDNet UK product reviews from AltaVista’s shopping section. This additional news source makes AltaVista’s search services even more powerful and will provide constant, up-to-date accounts of technology news throughout the UK. ZDNet UK today announced an agreement with BT Cellnet, the UK’s market leaders in mobile Internet services, through which ZDNet UK will provide technology content to the growing user base of BT Cellnet's Genie Internet Service (www.genie.co.uk). Genie Internet enables users to access a range of topics including news, entertainment, technology, sports, travel and banking services from any WAP enabled handset on any UK network.
Part of ZDNet’s expansive wireless and broadband strategy dubbed "ZDNet Everywhere", this strategic alliance extends ZDNet UK’s reach to the rapidly growing number of people using wireless devices to access the Internet.

19.5.200: ZDNet Invests in European Ecommerce Provider Kelkoo.com
Plans to Add Robust Price Comparison and Buying Functionality to ZDNet UK Site.
ZDNet today announced that it has made an equity investment in European Ecommerce company Kelkoo.com. Kelkoo.com lets Web visitors search for products and compare prices on hundreds of European Ecommerce sites. Specific financial terms were not disclosed.
In the next few months, ZDNet UK (www.zdnet.co.uk) and Kelkoo.com will roll-out a co-branded, technology-focused Ecommerce service that combines ZDNet’s authoritative product reviews and PCDirect shopping services with Kelkoo.com’s price comparison functionality. The result will be a robust, convenient and cost-effective technology product shopping experience, tailored for ZDNet UK visitors.
