Get your Internet connection toolbar icon back
Bonnie Gitto, a Tip Universe reader, says:
Recently we managed to loose our Internet connection icon that resides on the taskbar when you're connected to the Internet. As this was lost in the process of making an ISP switch, I called the ISP tech support and was told they didn't know how to gain it back and that while it was a convenience, it wasn't necessary to connecting or disconnecting from the Internet.

Quite frankly, not having the icon to see if you're connected while downloading programs or information is a royal pain and I was determined to find the solution. I did not accept that it was difficult to solve and I was right. The solution to gaining the lost icon back is below.

  1. Double-click onto My Computer.

  2. Double-click onto Dial-Up Networking.

  3. Click (don't double-click) onto your ISP connection in the Dial-Up Networking desktop to get the menu bar to light up.

  4. Click onto Connections... go down to Settings and click.

  5. In the General tab make sure that there is a check in the box next to "Show an icon on taskbar after connected"... This is under "When establishing a Dial-Up connection."

  6. Click OK and you're back in business with your connection icon showing whenever you're connected to the Internet.
