AutoRun Disabled

Something happened when I installed Windows Me. Now when I put in a CD that used to start automatically, nothing happens. I have to double-click on the CD-ROM icon and manually open the game by clicking on Setup or AutoRun. How can I fix the problem?

En Ralex

We have received several reports of AutoRun being disabled after a Windows Me upgrade, caused by an incorrect Registry modification. You can check for and repair this problem using REGEDIT. Enter REGEDIT in the Start menu's Run command and navigate to the key hkey_ current _user\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. In the right-hand pane, look for the value NoDriveTypeAutoRun. Its data may read "ff ff ff ff". If so, double-click it and correct it to read "95 00 00 00".

If that wasn't the problem, right-click My Computer, select Properties, and click the Device Manager tab of the resulting dialog. Open the CDrom item in the display, highlight your CD-ROM drive, and click the Properties button. On the Settings tab of the Properties dialog, check Auto insert notification if it isn't checked, and click OK.
